The
JACK ACID SOCIETY "We are happy to announce that our position, the position of the JACK ACID SOCIETY, stands erect and proud before friend and foe. In other words, we are for the RIGHT, although this is not to confuse our position with the false posturing of others. There are some who sail under false colors, claiming they alone represent patriotism, mother, country, flag, church. Well, they ALL are undoubtedly subversive, out to destroy us, who truly believe. As far as the eye can reach lie the peaceful and beautiful things we believe in, our heritage, limousines, country estates, . . . Others do not believe in these patriotic things. As is generally known, WE are on GOD'S side and all who oppose us are against GOD! Now, let me make it quite clear, when you pick on GOD, you pick on ME! It's the same thing as picking on the flag, almost. God is like that to me, kind of like a brother, sort of, you know, practically one of the family. Defy us, disagree with us if you will, we will democratically throw you out of the group. You'll be on your own, without God, without the flag, even without ME. You'll have only yourself to thank for such a calamity. Now, some tend to confuse us with the opposition in our tactics. Nothing could be further from the truth . . . let me delineate . . . just how one supposedly true conservative claimed that political direction and position have switched. Suppose one had been on the LEFT of the road. Well, you must bear in mind the road has shifted over. Thus, according to this fellow, the new road goes through his OLD position, he's in the MIDDLE now. OKAY, suppose he used to be RIGHT of center, the road goes the OTHER WAY for the conservative, right? And the RIGHT SIDE of THAT old road is the LEFT Side of the same old road going the OTHER WAY. So you find when the road shifts to its RIGHT it goes through the LEFT spot OR its OLD RIGHT spot making THAT the middle of the road, too. UNDERSTAND? On their face, these figures may seem quite orderly and understandable. The fact is, however, they mean just the opposite of the conclusion drawn."
* liberally interpreted from The Jack Acid Society Black Book, by Walt Kelly and published by Simon & Schuster in 1962, and used to illustrate the fact that both parties will change positions as needed, as the wind blows, and according to the latest instant poll on Fox News. Walt Kelly wrote the Pogo comic strips throughout the 50s and 60s and was right on in his observations about the dignity and worth of the general population, and the overall degenerate condition of those who engage in the business of politics and power. |
