PenderWatch and Conservancy dot.gif (1865 bytes) PenderWatch & Conservancy - Founded in 1986 by a small group of concerned citizens, PenderWatch & Conservancy is a grass roots non-profit conservation group dedicated to the preservation and conservation of the environment in eastern Pender County. We have a record of accomplishment in helping the county address uncontrolled growth, wetlands loss, and coastal water quality issues. We are a volunteer based organization and need active, involved members, and we welcome the support of all. Board meetings are held monthly at the Pender Library in Hampstead.
Alliance For A Responsible Swine Industry dot.gif (1865 bytes) Alliance For A Responsible Swine Industry - ARSI is a non-profit organization established in an effort to fight against a lack of regulations in the hog industry.  Many of our members are people whose lives and homes have been invaded by large-scale hog operations placed in their communities.

NC Division of Coastal Management dot.gif (1865 bytes) NC Division of Coastal Management - Coastal Management is part of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, which is responsible for keeping the state's environment healthy. The division also receives oversight (and part of its funding) from the Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management, part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. NC Division of Marine Fisheries dot.gif (1865 bytes) NC Division of Marine Fisheries - The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) is responsible for the stewardship of the state's marine and estuarine resources, and the public is invited to participate.

Behind North Carolina's fragile strand of barrier islands lie shallow waters where the land and sea gradually merge forming estuaries, brackish swamps and mud flats that serve as nursery areas for shrimp, crabs, finfish, and shellfish.
