Pender County Head Start
Head Start is a federally funded program for low-income children and children with disabilities, with emphasis on the social, emotional, physical and mental development of the child. The overall goal of the Head Start program is to bring a greater degree of social competence in children of low-income families. The child's entire family, as well as the community, must be involved. How does Head Start benefit children? Head Start gives each child a head start in life. It provides children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically. The staff recognizes that parents are the first and most important teachers of their children. They welcome their involvement in Head Start activities, and work as partners with parents to help their children progress. Head Start members offer each child love, acceptance, understanding, and the opportunity to learn and experience success. Head Start children socialize with others, solve problems, and have other experiences which help them become self-confident. The children also improve their listening skills and speaking skills. They spend time in stimulating settings where they form good habits and enjoy working on tasks with classmates. Children leave Head Start more prepared for Kindergarten, excited about learning and ready to succeed. Volunteer You can become a Head Start volunteer and learn more about child development. This experience may later qualify you for training which can help you find employment in the child care field. Tell me more...... Our centers follow the public school
