Pender County Health Department - Mobile Outreach Program

What
is Outreach? Outreach means making our services available to people who may not receive adequate health care on a regular basis - people who live in remote areas, who have no transportation, suffer a disability, or have no health insurance. Why do we provide Outreach Services? We believe that everyone should have access to reliable, quality health care. By providing outreach services, we can inform Pender County citizens about the availability of services, assist in making appointments, help with transportation, and help people apply for Medicaid and other public assistance programs. Who can benefit from Outreach Services?
Features of our Mobile Health Unit
How does it work? Each week, we go out into a community to knock on doors, visit stores, and talk with people. We let them know about our services. Later, we will come back in our Mobile Health Unit staffed with health department physician, nurses, social workers and community health assistants. On that day, we will provide health care to the people who requested it. Sometimes we make a referral if a person needs follow-up care. Our Dental Service offers complete dental care, too.
Preventive care can keep minor problems from becoming major ones. The dentist can check for early signs of gum disease, oral cancer and other potentially serious problems that can be detected only during the dental visit. Pender County Health
