TOPSAIL HUMANE SOCIETY UPDATE FOR MAY, 2006

What a last few weeks we've had. Our numbers at the shelter went down to 5 after several Petco Adoption Fairs. HOWEVER, we have quickly gone back up to 13 dogs, as of today.

We have 2 dogs in need of foster homes. One is now in her second foster home, recuperating after being hit by a car. Her name is Hope. Hope had two broken bones in a front leg but it is healing well according to the veterinarian. She will be in a splint for another 4 weeks, after which, she will be going through a heartworm treatment. She weighs 25 lbs. and is a beagle/ basset mix.

Our second dog just came to us today. She is an 11 year old Boston Terrier whose owner was taken to the hospital after suffering a stroke and NO family member is willing to take her. Her owner also had Alzheimer's and didn't recognize her dog when the neighbor took her for a visit. She won't do well at the shelter and I'm hoping to have a foster home for her until she is adopted.

If any of you would be willing to foster a dog for a week,or even just a few days, PLEASE call me. These dogs are very special, as are all of the "children" in our care. We would love to have more volunteers willing to foster ANY of the dogs we have. You can contact me at (910) 262-5091.
THS ANNUAL YARD/BAKE SALE - MAY 6, 2006

It was a HUGE success. They raised $3500 that day!!!
Sue Gillespie was chairman of the committe. They worked extremely hard and said that it was a madhouse that day. I would like to thank everyone that helped with that fundraiser.

Right now, we have 13 dogs with us. We could use some more help at the shelter on Tuesday and Friday evenings, Saturday morning and evening and on Sunday mornings. If you can help to fill in at any of times, we'd greatly appreciate it. You can call me at the above number to volunteer.

A reminder that Topsail Humane Society meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Surf City Community Center located on JH Batts Road. The meeting starts at 6:30 pm and all are welcome to attend.

Many, many thanks to all of you who have supported the Humane Society in any way. Without your help, we couldn't save the dogs we have had come through our doors. They are very special to us and it is truly rewarding to see them go to their new families.

Sincerely,
Astrid Anders
